Sweet Vintage Iron Love Seat

I just finished spray painting this lovely iron love seat or settee. 2 pieces so it can be separated or kept together like 2 love birds! First I used a wire brush to take off chippy paint and rust debris. The I used a white Rustoleum spray paint. Covered up lots of rust and discolored spots. This is a nice and sturdy set. Making cushions for it tomorrow….I’ll show you those when I get them all done! It’s amazing what a little can of spray paint can do!

Yacht Race Game Anyone?

Just picked up this darling yacht game board at auction, vintage of course! I paired it with my sailboat place mats, dinner napkins and cocktail squares. All items are available from my shop…please inquire for prices. The Yacht Race Game is by Parker Brothers. The white cotton linen blend napkins, place mats and cocktail squares feature blue white embroidered flags. There are 12 place mats, 12 large square napkins and 12 cocktail squares which are really rectangles, great for holding beverage glasses.

Mac and cheese attack (with ham)…I just had to do it!

Last night I had a severe craving for mac and cheese. No idea where that came from nor did I even get a chance to display it in a pretty plate for you before I ate it! (sorry). But here is an upclose shot and recipe….indulge:
1 pound box of corkscrew pasta
1 tablespoon salt
Boil pot of water and add pasta. Cook for just 6 minutes. While waiting for the pot to boil. Saute 1/2 of thinly chopped onion in 2 tablespoons of butter plus drizzle of olive oil (about 2 tablespoons). Once onions are opaque, add 3 heaping tablespoons of flower to make your rue. Stir around the flower and saute for about 1 minute. Then add 1 cup of chicken stock, 1 cup of milk (I actually used low fat), a tablespoon of dijon mustard and I added a splash of white wine (optional and by splash I mean 1/4 cup). Bring the liquid to a boil whisking to remove any lumps from the flower. This should start to thicken in a few moments….as it thickens, reduce heat and add 2 bags of shredded cheese. I used sharp cheddar but feel free to mix different types of cheese. Once it thickens and cheese is absorbed into the mixture, take pot off heat. By then your pasta will be done, drain well. Mix pasta and mixture well. I added the pre-cooked ham in diced pieces at this time. Transfer to large casserole dish, sprinkle top with bread crumbs and more cheese. Stick under broiler for about 3 to 5 minutes until cheese melts on top and bread crumbs brown….wait for it….ahh..now dive in once it cools. Enjoy!

Fun new way to display and store your jewelry, pins and earrings! I was bored the other day and wanted to display my jewelry for sale differently. So after staring at a lampshade for a few minutes…it hit! Pin the pins, hang the earrings from the lamp shade! This particular shade swivels on the bulb so it can be moved around to show all sides…neat way for you to store your jewelry too!

Creative Outdoor Table Lobster Trap & Barn Door

Old Barn Door & Lobster Trap table…..since I am not mechanically inclined, I simply set this old barn door on top of a very heavy lobster trap or cage. All original rusty patina on the cage and the barn door is a small size, probably the top half of a horses stall…easy to assemble and disassemble. IMG_1399b

Mom’s Famous Potato Salad for the 4th of July!
Served in a lovely antique transferware tureen and matching under plate. We also used stunning silver plate fork and spoon set! Here is Mom’s recipe for yummy simple potato salad:

5 pounds of baking potatoes
4 hard boiled eggs
1 cup of salad dressing (we used Miracle Whip)
1/2 of onion diced finely
large bunch of parsley roughly chipped
1 tsp of salt (taste to test)
1/2 tsp of pepper

Boil your potatoes and eggs in one pot. Boil the eggs for about 8 minutes and the potatoes about 20 minutes until fork tender. After the potatoes cool and the eggs as well, peel them both. Cut into bite size pieces. Dice up your onion and parsley. In a large mixing bowl gently toss potatoes, eggs, salad dressing, salt, pepper, onions and parsley. And as Mom says, taste to test! Add more S&P as you like. Mom’s special secret too is to add a drizzle of olive oil at the end..adds a nice fresh taste! Here are some photos of the potatoes and eggs boiling together to save clean up time and our potato salad all ready to go to the party!
